Synagogue of Arlon, Romanesque Revival synagogue in Arlon, Belgium
The synagogue displays a Romano-Byzantine architecture with two slim side towers and a central arch above the portal and rose window.
Built in 1865, this religious building stands as the first synagogue constructed in Belgium, with public funds covering most construction costs.
The exterior facade incorporates Jewish symbolism through twin bays in the gable and the Tables of the Law adorning the triangular pediment.
The synagogue reopened in October 2019 after five years of restoration work addressing structural issues caused by moisture and dry rot.
During World War II, the building served as a straw depot while the synagogue's caretaker protected the Torah scroll from destruction.
