Guirsch Castle, Protected heritage castle in Arlon, Belgium.
Guirsch Castle is a manor in Arlon built around an inner courtyard with multiple connected structures. A gateway tower erected in 1763 serves as the main entrance, while two residential wings facing the yard date from the 1800s and overlook landscaped gardens.
A fortress once stood at this location until 1453 when Burgundian forces destroyed it completely. The present-day structure was rebuilt between 1749 and 1763 as an entirely new construction replacing the ruins.
A chapel originally built within the grounds was later transformed into Saint Willibrord Church, showing how religious spaces evolved within the estate. Visitors can see how this spiritual site remained tied to the castle's life over centuries.
This castle operates as a private residence and welcomes visitors mainly during official heritage celebration days. Planning your visit around these special openings is essential since regular public access is limited.
The de Wykerslooth de Rooyensteyn family has lived here since the late 1800s, continuing a legacy of noble families who shaped this place. Their multigenerational presence has directly influenced how the estate developed and remained standing through modern times.
