Brugs Beer Museum, museum in Bruges, Belgium

Welcome to Bruges, a beautiful city in Belgium known for its picturesque canals, medieval architecture, and delicious beer. If you're a beer lover, then you must visit the Bruges Beer Museum, located on the upper floors of the post office building at the corner of Grote Markt and Breidelstraat. The museum is dedicated to the history of beer from ancient times to the present day, with a focus on beer in Bruges, Trappist beers, different types of beer, and brewing processes. It's important to note that this museum should not be confused with the Brewery Museum located at Walplein. The Bruges Beer Museum was established by Emmanuel Maertens, Thibault Bekaert, and Dominique Laloo on May 22, 2013, with the aim of operating a "beer museum with tasting room." The registered office was later moved to Breidelstraat 3, 8000 Bruges, which is also the address of the museum. The post office building at the corner of Grote Markt and Breidelstraat was designed by architect Louis Delacenserie and was opened in 1891. The upper floors were previously used by the City Archives and federal government services. After the centralization of government services in a new office building at the station, these floors became available and were sold to a private investor who now rents them to the founders of the Beer Museum. The Bruges Beer Museum opened its doors to the public on July 19, 2014. Visitors can use a tablet computer to follow the history of beer from Mesopotamia, with special attention paid to the brewing history of Bruges. When you arrive at the museum, you'll be greeted by friendly staff who will provide you with an audio guide and a tablet computer. The audio guide is available in several languages, including English, French, Dutch, and German. The tablet computer is used to access interactive exhibits and displays throughout the museum. The first part of the museum is dedicated to the history of beer, from its origins in Mesopotamia to the present day. You'll learn about the different types of beer, how they're made, and how they've evolved over time. The exhibits are interactive, so you can touch and feel the materials used to make beer, such as hops and barley. Next, you'll move on to the section of the museum that focuses on beer in Bruges. Here, you'll learn about the city's rich brewing history, which dates back to the Middle Ages. You'll see old photographs and artifacts from the city's breweries, and you'll learn about the different types of beer that were brewed in Bruges. One of the highlights of the museum is the tasting room, where you can sample some of the best beers from Bruges and Belgium. The tasting room is a cozy space with wooden tables and chairs, and it's the perfect place to relax and enjoy a cold beer. In conclusion, the Bruges Beer Museum is a must-visit attraction for anyone who loves beer. It's an informative and interactive museum that provides a fascinating insight into the history of beer and its importance in Bruges. So, grab your audio guide and tablet computer, and get ready to explore the world of beer!
