The six-floor glass and steel building stretches along a bend in the River Scheldt, containing over 200,000 items across its open-plan spaces.

The location served as an industrial unloading point for coal barges from Wallonia before its transformation into a cultural center in 2017.

De Krook functions as a knowledge center where Ghent University researchers and IMEC technology experts share discoveries with the general public.

The facility provides 500 seats, houses a reading café, maintains multiple study areas, and includes dedicated spaces for technological experimentation with 3D printing.

The building incorporates artworks by Michaël Borremans and connects to the Nelson Mandelapromenade, offering mooring spots for water taxis and pleasure boats.
