The town of Dzisna stands at the meeting point of two rivers, the Dzisna and Western Dvina, in northern Belarus.
Founded in the 10th century by Polotsk Krivichs, Dzisna received Magdeburg city rights from King Sigismund II Augustus in 1569.
The Resurrection Orthodox Church contains the 18th-century Hodegetria icon, which survived multiple relocations during periods of conflict.
The region maintains both a functioning automobile bridge from the 19th century and a ferry service across the Western Dvina River.
Archaeological remnants of a medieval castle remain on an island where the Dzisna and Western Dvina rivers merge.
