Nesvizh Castle, Renaissance castle in Nesvizh, Belarus
Nesvizh Castle is a residence complex built during the Renaissance period in the town of Niasviž in western Belarus. The structure wraps around a square courtyard with three floors and four octagonal corner towers, while an artificial moat separates the entire compound from the surrounding gardens.
The Radziwill family began converting an older defensive site into a noble residence in 1582, shaping the appearance of the compound for centuries. Later generations added baroque details and expanded the park, while the residence underwent major restoration following damage during 20th-century conflicts.
The chapel interior serves as the Radziwill family mausoleum and lets visitors see how faith and remembrance shaped life within the residence. Stone carvings along the courtyard arcades reflect motifs from both western European and local traditions, showing how the family blended influences from different regions.
The grounds open daily and offer guided walks through restored halls with furniture from different periods. Pathways outside are mostly level and allow visitors with limited mobility to reach the courtyard and main entrance.
An extensive landscape park with artificial lakes wraps around the compound and was laid out in the English style during the 19th century. The green spaces now invite visitors to walk along the shores after touring the interior rooms and enjoy views of towers and facades from the water.
