Vetka

Vetka is a district center in Gomel Region, situated along the Sozh River in an agricultural landscape. The area includes several small settlements surrounded by farmland and open countryside.

The settlement was established in 1685 by Old Believers fleeing from Central Russia seeking refuge. The area later suffered major destruction during conflicts with imperial forces.

The Vetka Museum of Old Believers displays religious objects and traditional crafts that reflect how people here practiced their faith and lived for generations. Walking through the collections gives you a sense of the distinct identity that has shaped this community.

The area has a low population density, meaning places are spread out and require transportation to reach. Getting around is easiest by car or using local buses that connect the scattered settlements.

Chalk deposits near the area are mined for cement production, which has shaped local industry in an otherwise rural region. This resource has brought a small manufacturing operation to what remains largely a farming landscape.
