Slutsk, Administrative center in Minsk Region, Belarus
Slutsk is a city in Sluck District, Minsk Region, Belarus, positioned along the Slutch River. The town center spreads across both riverbanks, connecting residential areas with older structures from different periods.
Historical sources mention the settlement for the first time in 1116 as part of the Principality of Turov-Pinsk. During the 12th century, it became the center of its own principality that lasted several centuries.
The city became known during the 17th and 18th centuries for its ornamental silk sashes called Persiarki, which were exported as far as Persia. These sashes are now rare collector items displayed in museums around the world.
The town is connected to Minsk and other cities via the M1 highway and has a railway station with regular connections. Visitors can explore the center on foot, as main points of interest lie within walking distance of each other.
A community of Scottish immigrants settled here during the 17th century, bringing craftsmanship techniques and trade contacts. Their descendants remained in the region for several generations and shaped local economic life.
