Baranavičy railway museum, Railway museum in Baranavichy, Belarus
The Baranavičy railway museum is a railway museum in Baranavichy, Belarus, displaying steam and diesel locomotives, freight cars, and technical documents from different periods of rail transport. The vehicles are arranged both outdoors and under cover, allowing visitors to walk alongside and around the full-size machines.
The museum opened in 1984, set up to preserve vehicles and records linked to the railway history of Belarus. Baranavichy had been a major junction since the late 19th century, which made it a natural home for this kind of collection.
Baranavichy grew around its railway junction, and many of the objects on display come directly from local operations rather than distant depots. Walking among the old locomotives, visitors get a sense of how central the railway was to everyday life in this part of Belarus.
Much of the collection is displayed outside, so a visit on a dry day makes it easier to move around and see everything clearly. Guided tours are available and help make sense of the technical details behind each vehicle.
Some of the locomotives on display were still in active service until shortly before they were moved to the museum, meaning they are working machines rather than restored replicas. Close inspection of certain vehicles reveals marks and wear from real operational use.
