Church of the Assumption of Mary in Budslaŭ, Minor basilica in Budslau, Belarus.
The Church of the Assumption of Mary in Budslaŭ is a Baroque basilica featuring two multi-tiered towers on its front facade decorated with pilasters and semi-columns. The structure has a rectangular plan with several side chapels and was constructed entirely of stone.
The stone church was built starting in 1767, incorporating walls from a side chapel of the previous 17th-century structure into the new design. The site later became an important religious center in the region.
The church serves as a pilgrimage destination where people gather to honor the Budslau Icon of the Mother of God. This religious practice continues to shape the spiritual life of the community today.
The building is easily accessible and can be viewed both from outside and inside, allowing visitors to appreciate the architecture from different angles. Note that this is an active pilgrimage site, so quieter times for exploration are typically outside major religious holidays.
The annual Budslau pilgrimage gathering was recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2018 and draws thousands of believers. This recognition highlights how a long-standing local religious tradition has gained global significance.
