Drysviaty Castle

Drysviaty Castle occupies an island in Lake Drysviaty and consists of ruins with visible earthwork formations and stone foundations. The remains reveal the basic structure of a medieval fortress with distinct defensive features.

The castle developed in medieval times as a fortification to control water routes between present-day Belarus and Lithuania. Over time it deteriorated and was eventually abandoned.

For centuries, this location held strategic importance in the region's military landscape. The ruins reflect how medieval communities used island positions to control movement along water routes.

A boat trip from the village of Drysviaty is required to reach the island location, and local guides can provide information on site. It helps to dress for the weather and bring suitable footwear.

The ruins display visible traces of medieval building techniques through preserved foundation layouts and patterns in the stone work. Archaeologists can study construction methods from hundreds of years ago at these remains.
