Synagogue in Kobrin, 18th century synagogue in Kobrin, Belarus.
The Synagogue in Kobrin is a three-story building with a central facade featuring flat roofs and semicircular windows on its upper floors. Ground level openings have arched shapes that lead into the interior spaces.
The building was constructed in the 18th century as a center of Jewish life in the city when the Jewish community there flourished. Later it became the sole surviving Jewish house of worship in Kobrin.
The building shows a blend of classical and eclectic design elements created by craftspeople who combined local and international styles. Visitors can observe this architectural diversity reflected in the facade details and internal structure.
The building is currently accessible but requires extensive restoration work to be fully restored. Visitors should exercise caution as some areas may not be safe or fully passable.
Before World War II there were seven Jewish houses of prayer in the city, yet this one is the only structure that survived the passage of time. It stands as a quiet witness to the former diversity of the Jewish community.
