Liyinghou Temple

Welcome to the tourist guide of Liyonghou Temple, located in Xiangyuan Township, Pingyao County, Shanxi Province, China. This temple is dedicated to the worship of Hu Tu, a senior official of the Jin State during the Spring and Autumn Period. In 2006, it was listed as one of the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units. The exact date of construction of Liyonghou Temple is unknown, but only the main hall remains today, which was built during the Yuan Dynasty. The main hall faces south and sits on a one-meter high platform with a terrace in front. It has a width of three bays and a depth of four rafters, with a hanging mountain top. The eaves are supported by four single brackets, and the beams are arranged in a flat beam and three purlins. Inside the hall, there are nine colored statues from the Yuan Dynasty. To get to Liyonghou Temple, you can take a bus or taxi from Pingyao Ancient City, which is about 20 kilometers away. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes. Upon arrival, visitors will be greeted by the magnificent main hall, which is the only remaining structure of the temple. As you enter the main hall, you will notice the intricate details of the architecture, including the hanging mountain top and the four single brackets supporting the eaves. The interior of the hall is adorned with colorful statues from the Yuan Dynasty, which are well-preserved and provide a glimpse into the artistic style of that era. In addition to the main hall, visitors can also explore the surrounding area, which is home to several other historical sites and cultural relics. These include the Guosi Temple, which is located to the west of Liyonghou Temple and dates back to the Tang Dynasty, and the Qiao Family Compound, which is a well-preserved example of traditional Chinese architecture from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Overall, Liyonghou Temple is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Chinese history and culture. Its rich heritage and stunning architecture make it a unique and unforgettable experience for visitors from all over the world.
