Daming Temple

Welcome to the tourist guide of Da Ming Temple in Jiyuan City, Henan Province, China. Da Ming Temple was built in Zhicheng Town and was listed as the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units in 2001. The temple has a rich history dating back to the Western Han Dynasty when it was built as an ancestral temple by the Zhi King. Later, during the Northern Song Dynasty, it was converted into a Buddhist temple. In 1277, during the Yuan Dynasty, the temple was rebuilt and expanded. Today, the temple boasts thirteen buildings from the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, covering an area of over 20,000 square meters. The temple's overall architecture is oriented north-south, with a length of 149 meters from north to south and 137 meters from east to west. The buildings are arranged along the central axis from south to north, including the mountain gate, Vajra Hall, Yan Jun Hall, auxiliary hall, central Buddha Hall, Jialan Hall, monk's quarters, and rear Buddha Hall. The main building, the central Buddha Hall, is three bays wide and three bays deep, with a single-eave gable roof. It is one of the four surviving wooden structures from the Yuan Dynasty in Henan Province. The Jialan Hall was built during the Ming Dynasty and is three bays wide and four bays deep, with a single-eave hanging gable roof. The rear Buddha Hall was built during the Qing Dynasty and is three bays wide and three bays deep, with a single-eave hanging gable roof. The interior of the hall is well-preserved with colorful murals. Visitors can explore the temple's rich history and architecture while enjoying the peaceful surroundings. The temple is open to visitors daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission fees are reasonable, and guided tours are available for an additional fee. Visitors should dress appropriately and be respectful of the temple's religious significance.
