Jiufeng Temple, temple in Yangyuan, Zhangjiakou

Welcome to the touristic guide of 鹫峰寺, also known as Shufeng Temple or Shujiu Temple. The locals commonly refer to it as Ta'er Temple. This ancient temple is located on the Hengshan Mountains in the south of Xiaoyanchang Village, Yangyuan County, Hebei Province. According to historical records, the temple was first built during the Tang Dynasty (785-805 AD) and underwent major renovations during the Qing Dynasty (1851-1861 AD). With over 1200 years of history, the only remaining structure is the Great Pagoda on the west side of the temple, which is also known as the Tang Pagoda. This brick and earthen tower was damaged during the earthquake in the autumn of 1989, causing the top of the pagoda to fall off and remain missing to this day. In 1993, the Great Pagoda of 鹫峰寺 was listed as a cultural heritage site under the protection of Hebei Province. In 2004, 鹫峰寺 was officially restored as a Buddhist activity center. Benefactors from within a few hundred miles, including Datong City in Shanxi Province and Zhangjiakou City in Hebei Province, contributed funds to repair and expand the temple. By the summer of 2007, the temple had become quite large and attracted many Buddhist worshippers. Visitors to 鹫峰寺 can enjoy the serene atmosphere and beautiful scenery of the Hengshan Mountains. The temple is surrounded by lush forests and clear streams, making it an ideal place for meditation and relaxation. Visitors can also admire the unique architecture of the Great Pagoda, which features intricate carvings and exquisite decorations. As a tourist guide, we recommend that visitors take their time exploring the temple and its surroundings. It is best to visit during the spring and autumn seasons when the weather is mild and the scenery is at its most beautiful. Visitors should also respect the customs and traditions of the temple, such as removing their shoes before entering the main hall and refraining from loud noises or disruptive behavior. In conclusion, 鹫峰寺 is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Chinese history, culture, and Buddhism. With its rich history, stunning natural scenery, and unique architecture, it is sure to leave a lasting impression on all who visit.
