Construction of the cathedral began in 1001, followed by the relocation of the episcopal see from Zeitz to Naumburg in 1028.
The west choir contains twelve donor statues representing the cathedral founders, sculpted with exceptional detail from Grillenburg Sandstone in the 13th century.
The cathedral operates as an active Protestant parish church while offering guided tours that showcase its architectural features and medieval sculptures.
The Elisabethkapelle houses the earliest known stone sculpture of Saint Elisabeth, demonstrating medieval craftsmanship in religious art.
