Kehlsteinhaus, Mountain retreat in Bavaria
The Kehlsteinhaus, also known as the Eagle's Nest, is a Third Reich-era building erected atop the summit of the Kehlstein.
It was presented to Adolf Hitler on his 50th birthday as a retreat and place to entertain friends and visiting dignitaries.
Today, it is open seasonally as a restaurant, beer garden, and tourist site.
The building can be reached by bus from the Documentation Center in Obersalzberg, followed by a lift ride.
Despite being a prominent location during the Nazi regime, it was never bombed by the Allies due to its difficult location.
