Saint Giles church

Saint Giles Church rises 86 meters high with characteristic red brick walls and features a five-story western tower modeled after St. Mary's Church.

Founded in 1227, the church holds significance as the first location in Lübeck where Protestant communion was celebrated during Easter of 1530.

The interior preserves a wooden rood screen from 1586 decorated with biblical paintings and a baroque altar created in 1701 by Hieronymus Jacob Hassenberg.

The building maintains its centuries-old interior design and architecture, offering visitors insights into northern German religious architectural developments.

A cannonball from the 1806 Battle of Lübeck remains embedded in the wall near the north door of the church.
