St. Stephan's Cathedral, Passau, Baroque cathedral in Passau, Germany
The cathedral presents white towers and blue-green domes, establishing itself as a major example of Italian baroque architecture north of the Alps.
After a devastating fire in 1662 destroyed the medieval structure, architects Carlo Lurago and Giovanni Battista Carlone led the reconstruction of the cathedral.
The cathedral functions as the main church of the Diocese of Passau, serving as a central location for religious ceremonies and musical performances.
Visitors can attend organ concerts from May through October during weekdays at noon, with additional performances on Thursday evenings at 7:30.
The cathedral houses the largest church organ outside the United States, containing 17,974 pipes and 233 registers operated through multiple consoles.
