Dobbertin Abbey, Benedictine monastery in Dobbertin, Germany.
The monastery features two towers and stands on a peninsula surrounded by the Dobbertiner See, displaying traditional brick architecture of Mecklenburg.
Prince Heinrich Borwin II of Mecklenburg established this first field monastery in Mecklenburg during the Christianization period around 1220.
The monastery transformed from housing Benedictine monks to nuns, and later became a Lutheran collegiate foundation for noblewomen in 1572.
The buildings now function as a care facility managed by the German Evangelical Church's charitable organization for people with physical disabilities.
Dobbertin Abbey contains the only church with dual towers throughout the entire region of Mecklenburg, distinguishing it from other religious structures.
