Dobbertiner Seenlandschaft und mittleres Mildenitztal - Landkreis Parchim

The Dobbertiner Seenlandschaft is a protected landscape in the Ludwigslust-Parchim District featuring lakes, forests, and the Mildenitz River valley. The area covers around 84 square kilometers and displays typical characteristics of a northern German landscape shaped by water and woodland.

The area was designated as a protected landscape in 1938 and received renewed legal protection in 1999 through federal conservation laws. This formal recognition acknowledged the ecological importance of the region.

The region was shaped by Dobbertin Monastery over centuries, leaving visible marks on the landscape that visitors can still observe today. Local communities have long lived alongside these natural features, creating a landscape where human history and nature are closely woven together.

The area features multiple hiking and cycling routes that lead to viewpoints and natural features throughout the region. Wear sturdy footwear as parts of the terrain can be muddy or wet, especially during certain seasons.

The landscape was shaped during the Weichselian glaciation and contains distinctive geological features like terminal moraines and meltwater channels. These ice-age formations remain visible in the pattern of lakes and hills throughout the region.
