St. John's Church

The church features a single large pitched roof covering three naves, with a west gable divided into three stories and paired pointed arch windows.

The Franciscans constructed the original basilica in 1225, which was replaced by a larger vaulted hall church in 1380 following increased attendance.

The church serves approximately 10,500 Catholics from over one hundred nations, offering regular services in multiple languages including French and Spanish.

The building contains a large cellar, created in 1834 when the floor was raised by three meters to prevent flooding, now functioning as a crypt.

At the top of the west gable, a cruciform window incorporates a Star of David, added during roof repairs in 1878.
