Burgruine Lichtenstein in Pommelsbrunn

Located on a hill spur of Schleußberg, the castle ruin rises 512 meters above sea level, overlooking the Franconian countryside and forest.

The castle was first documented in 1270 with nobleman Heinrich von Lichtenstein and remained under Bavarian control until its destruction in 1421.

The structure represents medieval German defensive architecture with its remaining carved stone windows, doorways, and strategic position above the settlement.

Visitors can reach the castle ruins through marked hiking trails starting from Pommelsbrunn, with informational signs explaining the historical layout.

The castle walls contain archaeological evidence of occupation from the early 13th century, including ceramic artifacts that reveal medieval daily life.
