The stone foundations and outer walls of Burgruine Helfenberg stand at 613 meters elevation, surrounded by dense forest in Upper Palatinate Bavaria.
The castle's first documentation dates from 1198 to 1217 when Count Ulrich of Velburg transferred it to the Diocese of Regensburg.
The remnants contain architectural elements that demonstrate the medieval construction methods and defense systems used in 13th-century Bavarian fortifications.
Visitors can reach the ruins through a marked path from the parking area between Lengenfeld and Velburg, requiring a 20-minute walk.
The castle underwent transformation into a Baroque palace between 1699 and 1707, with artistic contributions from Hans Georg Asam.
