Schloss Hambach, Medieval castle in Niederzier, Germany

The castle features a rectangular layout with four corner towers, constructed in brick, where only three towers and parts of two wings remain standing.

Graf Walram initiated construction in 1280, and between 1558 and 1565, Duke Wilhelm V transformed the structure into a Renaissance hunting residence.

The building served as the center of regional politics when it hosted the Landtag of the Duchy of Jülich in 1659.

The castle grounds provide spaces for private events and celebrations, while portions of the structure serve as residential apartments.

A gunpowder explosion in 1512 caused extensive damage, leading to reconstruction efforts that shaped the current appearance of the structure.
