Erbsenbrunnen, Mineral water fountain in Bad Cannstatt, Germany
The Erbsenbrunnen features a statue of a boy holding a water pitcher above a large pea-shaped sphere, with water flowing through four pipes into a hexagonal basin.
Fritz von Graevenitz completed the travertine fountain in 1929, replacing an older iron fountain that previously served the local community with mineral water.
The fountain's name derives from its historical function, as its mineral water was particularly effective for cooking peas and other legumes for the local population.
The fountain draws water from the Kellerbrunnenquelle through a ring pipeline system that maintains a constant temperature of 16 degrees Celsius throughout the year.
During the 1948 reconstruction, the sculptor based the boy's figure on his nephew, who later became German President Richard von Weizsäcker.
