Kocherursprung, Natural spring in Oberkochen, Germany
The Kocherursprung marks the origin point of the Black Kocher river, producing 680 liters of water per second from its karst spring formation.
From 1551 to 1634, an iron works operated at the spring location, using water power for hammers and bellows until its destruction during the Thirty Years War.
The spring forms part of the Geopark Schwäbische Alb, representing the geological heritage of the region through its natural water formation processes.
Multiple hiking trails start from the spring, connecting to routes toward Oberkochen and Wollenloch through the densely forested surroundings.
The spring sits near the European watershed, determining whether water flows north to the North Sea via Rhine or south to the Black Sea via Danube.
