Kloster St. Georgenberg, Cistercian monastery in Frankenberg, Germany
The monastery consists of a three-wing complex with buildings dating from the 13th to 17th centuries, located near the western gates of Frankenberg.
Founded in 1242 by Conrad of Itter, the monastery moved to its current location in 1245 after the previous site proved unsuitable for the religious community.
The Museum im Kloster, situated in the north wing, displays wooden carvings, stone sculptures, and the oldest blue print collection in the Hesse region.
The monastery currently serves as an administrative office for the Waldeck-Frankenberg district and houses a museum showcasing regional history and art collections.
The north wing features a late Romanesque chapel dedicated to Saint Maurice, with narrow round-arched windows from the mid-13th century still intact.
