Kloster St. Georgenberg

Kloster St. Georgenberg is a three-wing complex with buildings spanning from the 13th to 17th centuries, located west of Frankenberg's old town. The structures show different architectural styles from various periods, with rooms organized around a central courtyard.

The community was founded in 1242 and moved to this location in 1245 after the original site proved unsuitable. Over the following centuries, the buildings grew gradually, with each era leaving its mark on the structures.

The site is named after Saint George and served for centuries as a center for prayer and craft work. Visitors can still sense the daily rhythms of monastic life in how the buildings are arranged and how the spaces connect.

The grounds can be explored on foot and various areas are visible from outside, though not all rooms are open to visitors. It helps to allow time for details and to check opening times for interior spaces before visiting.

The northern section houses a chapel with narrow round-arched windows from the medieval period that survive to this day. These early windows reveal how builders of that era let light into sacred spaces.
