St. Michaelis, Romanesque church in Hildesheim, Germany.
St. Michaelis Church features a double choir design with two transepts and six towers, incorporating traditional elements of German Romanesque construction methods.
Bishop Bernward initiated the construction of St. Michaelis Church in 1010, completing this religious structure by 1033 during the height of Ottonian architectural development.
The church houses the Tree of Jesse fresco, spanning 27.6 meters and created using 1,300 oak planks to illustrate the lineage of Jesus.
Visitors can access the church through multiple entrances from downtown Hildesheim, with designated pathways leading to the Michaelishügel elevation.
The church functions simultaneously as both a Lutheran Protestant and Roman Catholic place of worship, demonstrating an unusual arrangement in German religious practices.
