Wendhausen Windmill, Tower mill in Lehre, Germany
The Wendhausen Windmill stands tall with five wooden sails, featuring a traditional Dutch-style design and cast iron mechanical components inside its structure.
Built in 1837 by the Vieweg brothers from Braunschweig, this mill replaced an existing watermill that had operated on the Schunter River since 1491.
The mill represents German industrial heritage, appearing on the coat of arms of Wendhausen and serving as a symbol of regional agricultural development.
Visitors can access guided tours of the windmill to learn about historical milling techniques and examine the restored mechanical systems from the 19th century.
This windmill incorporates English measurement standards and maintains the distinction of being Germany's only operational five-sailed mill.
