Spitalkirche St. Maria, Gothic church in Nabburg, Germany
Spitalkirche St. Maria is a church building in Nabburg featuring a three-axis nave with a gable roof and a retracted choir supported by exterior buttresses. The Gothic structure now serves as a venue for events and gatherings rather than religious services.
The church was founded in 1423 by Ulrich Tobhendl as part of a hospital complex. Between 1725 and 1751, the building underwent baroque modifications that shaped its current appearance.
The church transformed from a religious sanctuary to a modern event center in 2017, hosting cultural gatherings and civil wedding ceremonies.
The building sits behind the evangelical community center, making it easy to locate. Free parking is available at Seyerleingarten, which is just a short walk away.
In 1842 the building was divided, with its western section converted into residential space and its eastern choir repurposed as storage. This division fundamentally changed the original purpose of the structure.
