Archäologiepark Gävernitz, Bronze Age burial mounds in Gävernitz, Germany
The Archaeological Park features two reconstructed burial mounds, including one with a diameter of 14 meters from the Late Bronze Age period.
The burial mounds were discovered in 1928 during agricultural work when a motor plow uncovered ancient artifacts beneath the soil surface.
The archaeological site became the first open-air museum in Saxony in 1930, attracting over 19,000 visitors during the initial excavation period.
The Archaeological Park reopened in June 2022 with new educational facilities and receives financial support of 44,500 euros from the LEADER program.
The burial mounds contain remnants of the Lusatian culture, suggesting they served as final resting places for individuals of high social status.
