The Altar of Zeus at Olympia was a massive altar dedicated to the king of the Olympian gods.

Constructed in the 5th century BC, it played a central role in the religious life of Ancient Greece.

Every four years, the altar was the site of the Olympic flame lighting for the ancient games.

Today, the altar's remains are a tourist attraction and subject of archaeological study.

It was made almost entirely of ash from the sacrificed animals over the centuries.
