July Column, Monument in Paris, France
The July Column is a monumental column in Paris commemorating the Revolution of 1830.
It was built between 1835 and 1840 on the site of the Bastille prison, which was destroyed during the Revolution of 1789.
The column is engraved with the names of citizens who died during the July Revolution.
Visitors can see the column at the center of the Place de la Bastille.
Atop the column is a statue, the 'Spirit of Freedom', symbolizing liberty.
