Castle Trompette, Medieval fortress in Bordeaux, France

The Château Trompette stood as a rectangular fortress with six bastions, three ravelins, and defensive towers overlooking the Gironde River and Bordeaux port.

King Charles VII ordered the construction of Château Trompette in 1453 following the Battle of Castillon to maintain control over the previously English-allied city.

The fortress represented French royal authority over Bordeaux, leading to the prohibition of the Gascon language and the exile of resistant nobles.

The location of the former castle can be found at coordinates 44.8458°N, 0.5722°W, where traces of foundations emerged during recent construction work.

A detailed scale model of the castle, created under Vauban's supervision, remains preserved at the Museum of Plans and Reliefs in Paris.
