Abbaye d'Élan, Cistercian abbey in Élan, France.

The abbey features rectangular buildings with turrets and slate roofs supported by chestnut timber frames from the seventeenth century period.

Founded in 1148 by Count Ithier of Rethel, the abbey operated as a religious center until its closure during the French Revolution in 1790.

The monastery contained hydraulic systems, dikes, and canals that powered grain mills and forge hammers, demonstrating medieval engineering capabilities.

The abbey stands at 7 Allée du Château in Élan, with visiting arrangements coordinated through tourist offices in Charleville-Mézières.

Philippe of Burgundy, who died at the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, was buried within the abbey church, marking its connection to French nobility.
