Bessanèse, Mountain peak in Graian Alps, France and Italy

Located at 3,604 meters elevation, Bessanèse features two distinct summits: Signal Tonini at 3,592 meters and Signal Baretti at 3,604 meters.

The first documented climb of Bessanèse occurred on August 31, 1857, when Antonio Tonini successfully reached the summit through the Italian approach.

The mountain forms a natural border between France and Italy, with different names reflecting its cross-cultural significance: Bessanèse in French and Uia di Bessanese in Italian.

Access to Bessanèse starts from Bessans, continuing to Avérole Valley where parking is available at Vincendières at 1,809 meters elevation.

The mountain structure consists primarily of serpentinite rock, with a narrow ridge extending 150 meters across the summit area.
