Arch of Carpentras, Roman triumphal arch in Carpentras, France
The limestone arch stands 10 meters tall, 7.8 meters wide, and 4.53 meters deep within the courthouse of Carpentras.
Built in the first century CE, the arch served as the entrance to the Roman forum of Colonia Julia Meminorum, later known as Forum Neronis.
The lateral faces display military trophies with two captives wearing distinctive attire, representing Oriental and Northern figures bound to a tree trunk.
The monument sits between Saint-Siffrein Cathedral and the courthouse, with access depending on local regulations and scheduled events.
Cardinal Bichi preserved the arch's sculptures in 1645 by covering them with a thick layer of soil during the palace construction.
