Abbaye de Grosbot, Cistercian abbey in Charras, France

Notre-Dame de Grosbot Abbey features medieval religious architecture with a northern transept and a 17th-century chapter house in a Charente valley.

Established around 975 as an Augustinian house, the abbey joined the Cistercian order in 1166 and flourished under the patronage of the La Rochefoucauld family.

The Grosbot monks engineered an intricate water system with underground channels for agricultural irrigation and monastery self-sufficiency.

The historical monument stands at latitude 45.5522 north and longitude 0.3975 east, with visits available by appointment or during Heritage Days.

The abbey remains preserve a network of canals and ponds from the Cistercian period, demonstrating medieval hydraulic engineering techniques.
