In 1561, the forces of Ulrich VI of Wurttemberg captured the castle, discovering fourteen rooms furnished with silk beds and silver tableware.

Composer Johann Jakob Froberger lived in the castle from 1663 to 1667 under the protection of Princess Sybilla of Wurttemberg.

Visits to this historical monument, classified since 1913, allow exploration of the Spanish Tower and remains of medieval fortifications.

The castle had a specific cannon called the Shepherdess of Héricourt as part of its medieval defense system.
