Bagacum, Roman archaeological site in Bavay, France.

The archaeological site extends across 40 hectares, featuring intact sections of a Roman forum, thermal baths, and defensive fortifications from the 4th century.

Founded in the 1st century BC, Bagacum served as the capital of the Nervii tribe and developed into a major urban center in Belgian Gaul.

The forum of Bagacum represents the largest preserved Roman forum in France, with a basilica that ranked among the most substantial in the Roman Empire.

The archaeological museum, situated next to the excavation site, displays over 300 bronze artifacts and numerous pottery pieces discovered during excavations.

Seven major Roman roads intersected at Bagacum, establishing it as a crucial connection point between the provinces of Germania and Britannia.
