Château d'Aurouze

The castle structure extends along the hilltop with an elongated facade marked by mullioned windows, featuring a central keep and circular turret at its ends.

Built in 1309 under King Philip IV's authorization, the fortress changed ownership multiple times, including a period when bandits controlled it during the 14th century.

The castle's grand hall displayed intricate heraldic designs combining the arms of both Bouillés and Rochefort d'Aurouze families on its ground floor walls.

Located at coordinates 45.2396145, 3.1415893 in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, the castle remains can be observed from the surrounding landscape of Molompize.

The hexagonal room in the keep contains an elaborate vault system with three superimposed cavets radiating in six branches from a central protruding keystone.
