Torra di Nonza, Genoese defensive tower in Nonza, France
The cylindrical stone tower stands at 155 meters above sea level on the western coast of Cap Corse, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
The tower, listed in Genoese records from 1617, formed part of a network of coastal fortifications built between 1530 and 1620 to defend against Barbary pirates.
The structure represents the architectural expertise of Genoese military engineers and has received official recognition as a French historical monument since 1926.
Visitors can reach the tower by following marked paths through the village of Nonza, with the site offering views across the coastline and surrounding mountains.
During the 1768 French invasion, a single commander successfully negotiated surrender terms by making the French believe he commanded a large garrison inside the tower.
