Grenier à sel d'Honfleur

The Salt Cellar consists of two separate stone buildings with tiled roofs located along the Quai de la Tour in Honfleur's harbor area.

Built in 1670 under Colbert's supervision, the structures stored up to 10,000 tons of salt for cod fishing expeditions to Newfoundland and local tax collection.

The buildings now function as municipal halls hosting exhibitions, concerts, conferences, and numerous community gatherings throughout the year.

The larger warehouse measures 43.5 meters long by 11.5 meters wide, while the smaller one spans 30 meters by 12.6 meters.

The wooden framework of both structures demonstrates shipbuilding techniques, as marine carpenters constructed the chestnut timber roof supports.
