Enceinte Châteauneuf, Medieval fortification in Tours, France.
The Châteauneuf enclosure features stone walls and defensive towers that formed a protective barrier around the Saint-Martin district of Tours.
Built in the 10th century, this fortification protected the Saint-Martin basilica and established Châteauneuf's independence from the Gallo-Roman settlement.
The enclosure divided the space between religious activities of Saint-Martin collegiate church canons and the secular northern neighborhood of medieval Tours.
Two remaining towers, located in the east and southwest, stand as visible markers of the original fortification within the modern urban landscape.
The structure received multiple historical monument designations between 1940 and 1950, recognizing different sections of the remaining fortification.
