Grande Tombe de Villeroy, National necropolis in Chauconin-Neufmontiers, France

The Grande Tombe de Villeroy National Necropolis contains a collective burial of 133 soldiers within a rectangular stone structure measuring 21 by 3 meters.

On September 5, 1914, during the First Battle of the Marne, French soldiers from the 276th Infantry Regiment fell in combat against German forces.

A monumental stele created in 1932 displays a marble mosaic listing the names of the fallen soldiers, including Lieutenant Charles Péguy.

The site is located along departmental road 129 between Villeroy and Chauconin-Neufmontiers, ten kilometers from Meaux in Seine-et-Marne.

The landscape surrounding the Grande Tombe remains unchanged since 1914, with its hornbeam hedge, privet bushes, and two poplars framing the entrance.
