Abbaye de Saint-Quentin-en-l'Isle

The Abbaye de Saint-Quentin-en-l'Isle stands on an island in the Somme River, featuring stone buildings and religious structures from multiple construction periods.

Founded in 660 by Mommelin de Noyon, the abbey received royal status in 1406 and underwent reconstruction after Viking raids destroyed it in 882.

The monastery maintained extensive manuscripts and served as an educational center, controlling multiple churches including Saint-Éloi and Saint-Ladre.

The remaining structures of the abbey provide insights into medieval religious architecture, with portions integrated into later buildings following its destruction.

A stone church built in 1146 contained a well marking the exact location where Saint Quentin's body was discovered in the marshes.
