Helsinki Old Church

The wooden Neoclassical church features simple Doric pillars, gables, and a bell tower, standing at 15 meters in the Old Church Park.

Designed by architect Carl Ludvig Engel and completed in 1826, this structure was initially intended as a temporary replacement during Helsinki Cathedral construction.

The park surrounding the church contains the graves of over 1000 people from the 1710 plague, leading to its informal name 'Plague Park'.

The church maintains regular Tuesday noon organ recitals and provides complete wheelchair access for visitors throughout the premises.

The original pulpit from the demolished Ulrika Eleonora Church remains the only surviving piece of furniture transferred to this location in 1826.
