Kasarmitori is a pedestrian zone with broad open spaces enclosed by buildings containing shops, offices, and public services around its edges. The space provides a structured environment with clear sight lines and functional commercial and civic facilities throughout.

The location originated before 1815 and developed from its military beginnings into a central element of Helsinki's urban expansion. This evolution reflects how the neighborhood shifted from its original purpose to serve modern city functions.

The square holds a national memorial titled 'He Who Brings the Light', a sculpture by Pekka Kauhanen honoring Finland's Winter War. This artwork serves as a focal point for reflection in the heart of the neighborhood.

The location offers a parking facility with 400 spaces and electric car charging points that accept payment through mobile apps or payment machines. Multiple payment methods are available to make parking and charging convenient for different visitors.
