City and University Library in Osijek, public library

Welcome to Osijek, a beautiful city located in the eastern part of Croatia. As a tourist guide, I would like to introduce you to one of the most important cultural institutions in the city - The City and University Library of Osijek. The library was established on February 8, 1949, by the National Committee of Osijek as the Osijek City Library. Over the years, it has grown to become the central library of the University of Osijek and one of the biggest libraries in Slavonia and Croatia. The library's collection contains over 422,790 volumes, including books, journals, newspapers, and other materials. It circulates 325,836 items per year, making it a vital resource for students, researchers, and the general public. In 1957, the library was moved into its current location, the former House of Gillming-Hengl building on European Avenue. The building is a beautiful example of neo-baroque architecture and is worth visiting even if you are not interested in books. The library's interior is modern and well-organized, with comfortable reading areas and study rooms. The library's name was changed to The City and University Library of Osijek in 1975 when the University of Osijek was established. Today, the library serves both the university community and the general public, offering a wide range of services and resources. Visitors can borrow books, use computers and internet access, attend lectures and workshops, and participate in cultural events. If you are interested in visiting The City and University Library of Osijek, you can find more information on their official website. The library is open from Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 8 pm, and on Saturdays from 8 am to 2 pm. Admission is free, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Don't miss the opportunity to explore this unique cultural institution and learn more about the history and culture of Osijek.
